Alan(1925-2025)、Marilyn(1929-2022)のオシドリ夫婦で50年の作詞家コンビを続けてきました。

「華麗なる賭け」はスティーブ・マックウィーンの主演の映画でしたが、その主題歌ミッシェル・ルグラン作曲の邦題「風のささやき」、"The Windmills of Your Mind" はオスカーを獲得しました。この映画は1999年にリメイクされています。

それから、1973年のバーバラ・ストライザンドが歌ってオスカーをとった映画「追憶」の主題歌、"The Way We Were"はよく唄わせてもらいました。

そのジョニー・マンデルの「クリスマスラブソング」は1988年と新しい歌なのです。したがって、年寄りの多いスタンダードジャズの歌手たちには知らない人が多いというわけです。若い歌手はさらに知る由もありません。マントラのコーラスは抜群のサウンドですが、バーバラ・ストライザンドも迫力があります。ただし、音域の狭い人にはちょっときつい歌かもしれません。

2020年現在、夫婦ともに90歳を超して健在でいます。頑張ってボブ・ホープ夫妻に見倣って100歳を迎えてほしいものです。

Marilyn Bergman, award-winning lyricist, has died at 93

(CNN)Award-winning lyricist Marilyn Bergman died Saturday morning at her home in Los Angeles, according to her daughter Julie Bergman. She was 93.

Along with her husband and collaborator Alan, Bergman was nominated for 16 Academy Awards over the course of her career and won three, including for the song "The Way We Were" from the 1973 film that shared its name and starred Barbra Streisand. The song -- with music by composer Marvin Hamlisch -- also won two Grammys.

"She has been declining for the last couple of years, and in the last several weeks, it was clear that she was getting ready to leave, and she died very peacefully without any pain or struggle," Julie Bergman told CNN in a phone call. "My father and I were with her, and it was beautiful, and she looked beautiful, and it was very peaceful."

Bergman had "some pneumonia which leads to respiratory failure in patients like this," her daughter said.

ついにマリリンが亡くなりました。私の大好きな作詞家夫婦です。映画「追憶」、今でもThe Bay Bridgeを車で走るシーンが目に浮かびます。主題歌の”The Way We Were”は40年も歌ってきました。バーバラ・ストライザンドが生意気そうに見えた時代の顔が浮かびます。

それにも増して、ミッシェル・ルグランの曲にも素晴らしい歌詞を書いてくれました。30年以上歌い続けてきた”How Do You Keep The Music Playing?”は聴いてくれる友人が、自分も歌いたくなって私の所から譜面を持っていきました。今度は、”What Are You Doing The Rest Of Your Life？”の譜面を呉れと言いそうです。

丁度、Marilynが亡くなる1月8日土曜日の朝、日本では土曜日の夜、ことりとDuoで滅多に歌うことがない”How Do You Keep The Music Playing？”を歌っていました。目に見えない電波が飛んできたのです。そういう経験が別にもあるのです。

夫婦そろって100歳を迎えてほしいと書いてありますが、どうぞ安らかに眠ってください。R.I.P.
