Alan(1925-2025)、Marilyn(1929-2022)のオシドリ夫婦で50年の作詞家コンビを続けてきました。 「華麗なる賭け」はスティーブ・マックウィーンの主演の映画でしたが、その主題歌ミッシェル・ルグラン作曲の邦題「風のささやき」、"The Windmills of Your Mind" はオスカーを獲得しました。この映画は1999年にリメイクされています。 それから、1973年のバーバラ・ストライザンドが歌ってオスカーをとった映画「追憶」の主題歌、"The Way We Were"はよく唄わせてもらいました。 |
そのほかにも10数曲がアカデミー賞にノミネートされました。 そんな数々の作品の中で、Johnny Mandelが作曲した"A Christmas Love Song"というクリスマスソングがあります。誰もが歌うクリスマスソングではないようです。マントラが素晴らしいサウンドを聞かせてくれますが、女性4人組のGoodiesがその前身であるThe Lureのころから大原江里子のアレンジで歌っています。 トニーベネットが自分のコンサートで「ジョニー・マンデール」とマンデルの名前を盛んに発していました。 |
そのジョニー・マンデルの「クリスマスラブソング」は1988年と新しい歌なのです。したがって、年寄りの多いスタンダードジャズの歌手たちには知らない人が多いというわけです。若い歌手はさらに知る由もありません。マントラのコーラスは抜群のサウンドですが、バーバラ・ストライザンドも迫力があります。ただし、音域の狭い人にはちょっときつい歌かもしれません。 |

Alan Bergman, the Oscar-, Grammy- and Emmy-winning songwriter whose lyric-writing partnership with his wife Marilyn lasted more than six decades and produced such hits as “The Windmills of Your Mind,” “The Way We Were” and “In the Heat of the Night,” died Thursday night at his home in Los Angeles. He was 99.
長生きしたアラン・バーグマンが7月17日に亡くなりました。99歳でした。あと2カ月生きて100歳を迎えてほしかったところです。R.I.P.
