Johnny Mercer wrote English lyric to a French song " Les Feuilles Mortes". The original song is sung in 12/8, but its sound becomes Jazz when it is sung in 4 beats. French language is not fit to syncopation rhythm because of phonetics reason. Japanese too. Is it an accidental thing that slaves were imported from Africa to America where native language was English? Every language has its own rhythm. Singing style has its own rhythm.
