NEW YORK,-- One of the world's most
influential and beloved jazz pianists and composers, Sir George Shearing,
died shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning of cardiac arrest. Shearing
was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2006. A popular recording artist
and concert performer, Sheraing composed over 300 songs including
the jazz standard "Lullaby of Birdland." Shearing is survived
