Hit Chart #1 Songs 1960s

Billboard誌でHit Chart #1となった曲のリストを10数年前に見つけて、ファイルにして取ってあったものが出てきた。1930年代から1990年頃まである。年代別にまとめて出来次第お目にかけましょう。

面白いのは、名曲なるものが生まれた年に必ずしもヒットするわけではないことが分かることである。古い歌のリバイバルもあったりする。本ページは60年代。

50年代のポップスは60年代にも続く。見逃せないのはボサノバの台頭である。1位にこそなっていないが、次々とジョビンによってヒット曲が生み出された。

Hit #1のリストを見るとアメリカ人の耳がだんだん幼くなっている傾向が見られる。全てとはいわないが、１０代の子供たちのリクエストが増えて、そういう結果になったということだろう。

われわれはすでに大学生になっている。もっと生意気な大人の歌を「１００１」「Jazz ８」などから選び出してコーラスアレンジをして楽しんでいた。でも、時々は息抜きにこのチャートに出てくるような歌も取り上げたこともあった。60年代から70年代にかけてフォークソングも流行った。キングストン３、ブラ４、PPMやサイモン・ガーファンクルもいい歌を歌っていた。

あの”Moon River”が#1にならなかったのだから面白い。ヘップバーンの映画は見なかったのかねぇ？でも、ちゃんとオスカーをとっている。後にアンディ・ウィリアムスが毎週自分のショーでテーマソングとして歌った。

”What A Wonderful World”はサッチモが歌った素晴らしい歌だが、元をただせばベトナム反戦歌。平和を願って書かれた歌だ。アメリカは5人の大統領の時代にまたがってベトナム戦争を続けた。愚かとしかいいようがない。最後にゲリラ戦に負けるわけだが、この歌はイギリスに渡って#1になった。イギリス人は冷静だったのだろう。

ああ、これで60年代も終わった。この10年知らない歌ばかりが目白押しとなった。このサイトで話題にしている歌は無いと言ってよい。

もう70年代は続けて書くのを止めます。悪しからず。

しかし、その後の各年代にも、ごく稀にわれわれ爺様が好む奥深い歌が書かれています。もちろんヒットなんかしませんが、グラミー賞を取ったりしています。

1961〜1965までかの国で暮らしておりましたし、12歳〜16歳、ヒットチャート様様のお年頃でした。
なのでなつかしくて、ジャズのお話の、'60sのヒットチャートをを見ておりましたら、
「Hit #1のリストを見るとアメリカ人の耳がだんだん押さなくなっている傾向が見られる。」
と書いてありましたが、「押さなく」は「幼く」の変換ミスですよね？

また、Moon River が #1になっていない、と書いていらっしゃいますが、あの曲は、映画の挿入歌としてだけではなく、色んな人がカヴァーしていましたので、アーティスト別のチャートだと、#1にはならないのかもしれません。合計すると結構売れていたと思いますよ、みんな知っていましたし、結構口ずさんだりしていましたから。ただ、Audrey Hepburn は、日本でのような感じの圧倒的な人気はなかったです。映画も、ヘップバーンの、と言うよりも、当時色々とあったラブコメの結構できの良いもの、って感じで受け止められていたような気がします、挿入歌だけが一人歩きしていたような・・・女優としては、清楚な感じのヘップバーンよりも、当時、多少落ち目ではありましたが、リズ・テイラーのような、グラマー系の方が人気がありましたね。

リストを見ていると、いわゆるポップス系のチャートですね。今の日本で言えば、JPOPSと言うジャンルと同じ、と考えて頂くとわかりやすいと思います。殆ど全て覚えがありますし、当時、同級生たちの間で流行った曲ばかりですから。つまり、ティーンスの間で流行った曲のチャートです。「歌う」というよりも、「踊る」ための曲でした、殆どが。ツイストとか、ジルバ崩れとか、ステップは適当で、リズムに合わせて踊って様になると言うよりも様にする、いわゆるゴーゴーダンス、そんな曲が殆どでしょう、よくよく見て頂くと。
当然、大人たちにはあまり良い顔をされていませんでした。いつの時代も、ここら辺は同じです。(^^)
大人たちの間では、それこそ、映画の挿入歌とか、当時のブロードウェイのヒットミュージカルなどの曲が人気があった記憶があります。
私達中高生は、お小遣いでドーナツ盤、大人たちはアルバム、を購入していましたので、そこらへんも、ヒットチャートに影響を与えていると思います。
幼い耳に思えるわけです、実際、「幼い」連中が購入して#1に押し上げているのですから(^^)
「大人」の耳については、カントリーのチャートとか、映画音楽のチャートと比較してみると、より実情に近い、全体の傾向が見えるかと思います。
米国では、やはり、Country & Westernのジャンルは外せませんし、向こうにいた時は、C&Wに分類されていた曲が、日本でスはタンダードとして扱われているのを意外に思った事が何度もありましたし。
