「ラストダンスは私に」は越路吹雪によって大ヒットした曲で、多くの人は元はシャンソンだと思われている歌だ。

この歌を書いたのはDoc PomasとMort Shumanというアメリカのソングライター・コンビによるもので、1960年に黒人コーラスのThe Driftersが歌ったのが最初である。ドリフターズと言っても、いかりや長介ではない。

フランスでダリダがカバーして歌ったのがヒットし、越路はダリダのフランス語の歌を聴いて唄いたくなったのだろう。マネージャーの岩谷時子の訳詞は誰もが知っている。「どうぞ、踊ってらしていいわ・・・」

同じコンビで60年代にプレスリーの”Viva Las Vegas” ほかを書いている。

このアレンジはFJS女声合唱団に書いたもので、キーも歌詞も女歌に仕立ててある。男にはキーが低く、却って落ち着いて聞こえる。2003年に見本にレコーディングしたファイルから仕立てたものである。
