(211) 　Makin' Whoopee ってどんな意味？

今晩、池貝さんにライブに誘われAll Of Me Clubに２日ぶりに行きました。

ドラムス：池貝政俊、ピアノ：大森史子、ベース：根市タカオ、ボーカル：鈴木史子です。ちっとも珍しくないメンバーですが、根市っちゃんと大森さんは暫くぶりのような気がします。この頃、すぐに半年くらい過ぎてしまいますからね。

さて、お史はサービス満点でお客さんのリクエストを一杯歌いました。それはいいのですが、”Makin' Whoopee”を歌いました。内容は結婚式・新婚をテーマにした歌です。離婚から裁判に至るまでのアドバイスをしています。

歌う前に、歌の解説を根市っちゃんが始めました。「・・・大橋巨泉が何とかいう邦題を付けたんだが・・・若山先生に聞けば・・・」と話を私に振ってきそうな雰囲気。さて、その答えを一杯のお客様の前で、

「はい、セックスするという意味です」

なんて言えないじゃないですか。危ないところでした。

さて、いろいろ邦題を付けたり、訳詩をしたり人がいますが、

まず、Whoopee を辞書で調べると、「わーーい！」

そこで、Makin' Whoopeeを「大騒ぎする」だの「バカ騒ぎする」とか訳しています。巨泉の邦題もその手合いです。

真の意味はアメリカの隠語で「セックスする」ということです。

さて、ガス管と怒鳴ると損の名コンビの1928年のTin Pan Alley Songです。その他にもこんな歌を作っています。
